Product Care
Your jewellery is made to be worn, loved, and kept — with a little care, it will stay beautiful for years to come.
Our jewellery is available in stainless steel, sterling silver, 14k gold vermeil, gold plated and solid gold. All Dear Keepsake jewellery is nickel free.
To keep your jewellery in its best condition, we recommend following the care guidelines below.
925 Sterling Silver
Our Sterling Silver
We use sterling silver (925), where the '925' signifies that it contains a minimum of 92.5% pure silver. To enhance durability, the remaining 7.5% is composed of other alloys, making our silver both enduring and of superior quality, ideal for everyday wear.
Our sterling silver does not contain any nickel or lead, ensuring it is safe for those with sensitive skin.
What is the best way to clean my Sterling Silver jewellery
Use a soft microfibre polishing cloth to gently restore shine. For deeper cleaning, you can use a mild soap and warm water solution — wipe gently and ensure pieces are fully dry afterward.
How can I keep my Silver Jewellery from tarnishing
Keep your sterling silver jewellery bright by cleaning it regularly with a soft cloth, storing it in a dry, cool place, avoiding contact with chemicals and beauty products, wearing it often, and removing it before swimming or showering
Can I wear my Sterling Silver jewellery in water
Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising. Keep away from prolonged exposure to water, sweat, and chemicals to maintain its finish.
How should I store my Sterling Silver jewellery
Avoid storing your pieces in closed jewellery boxes or pouches as trapped humidity can speed up tarnishing. Instead, store them in open air, such as a dish, allowing your silver to breathe and stay bright.
Stainless Steel
Our Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is an incredibly durable metal and a great option if you like to leave your pieces on at all times. We choose to use stainless steel for crafting our larger items, such as bangles and chunky hoops, to keep them strong, lightweight, and more affordable for our customers.
Stainless steel is made from a blend of iron, carbon, and chromium, with chromium giving it its signature resistance to rust, tarnishing, and everyday wear.
What is the best way to clean my Stainless Steel Jewellery
Wipe your jewellery regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove oils and dirt. For deeper cleaning, use warm water and a mild soap, gently wiping the piece, then dry completely with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or brushes that could scratch the surface.
How to Keep Stainless Steel Jewellery from Tarnishing
Stainless steel is highly resistant to tarnish, but to keep it looking its best: Store in a dry, cool place. Avoid prolonged contact with chemicals, perfumes, lotions, or hairspray. Regular cleaning will maintain its natural shine.
Can I Wear Stainless Steel Jewellery in Water?
Avoid extended exposure to chlorine, saltwater, or hot tubs, as these can cause discolouration over time.
How Should I Store Stainless Steel Jewellery?
Store pieces separately to prevent scratches. Use a soft pouch, jewellery box/ or dish. Keep away from humidity and direct sunlight for long-lasting shine.
14K Solid Gold
Our Solid Gold
Our 14k gold, much like our sterling silver, is fortified with a small amount of metal to ensure both durability and exceptional quality. Pure gold's softness makes it unsuitable for jewellery, necessitating this alloying process.
What is the best way to clean my Solid Gold jewellery
Use a soft microfibre polishing cloth to gently restore shine. For deeper cleaning an ultrasonic cleaner can be used.
Does Solid Gold tarnish
Solid gold naturally resists tarnishing, but prolonged exposure to chemicals, perfumes, and moisture can gradually dull its shine.
Can I wear my Solid Gold jewellery in water
Yes Solid Gold is water-safe.
How should I store my Solid Gold jewellery
Store in a dry area or a jewellery box/ dish to keep it protected.
Stones and additional Plating
14k Gold Plating
Our 14k gold-plated jewellery is crafted on a sterling silver base.
Keep it dry: Store in a cool, dry place away from humidity, as moisture can tarnish the sterling silver beneath the plating.
- Use a soft pouch or lined jewellery box: Keep each piece separate to prevent scratches and friction. Soft cloth pouches or anti-tarnish compartments work best.
- Avoid exposure to chemicals: Perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, and cleaning products can wear down the plating. Always put jewellery on last when getting ready.
- Remove before water exposure: Take off your jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising to prevent fading and tarnishing.
- Gently wipe after each wear: Use a soft, dry microfiber or jewellery polishing cloth to remove oils and residue. Avoid abrasive materials.
- Limit water exposure: Do not soak gold-plated jewellery. If needed, lightly dampen a cloth with lukewarm water to clean, then dry thoroughly.
- Avoid silver polish and harsh cleaners: These can strip away the gold layer. Stick to dry polishing or mild cleaning.
- Restore shine carefully: If your jewellery starts to lose its lustre, gently buff with a clean cloth.
Rotate your pieces: Gold plating naturally wears over time. Alternate jewellery to reduce excessive wear on a single piece.
Pearls
Freshwater pearls are delicate and require special care to stay beautiful for years. Follow these tips to keep your pearl jewellery looking its best.
- Always put your pearls on last and remove them first to minimize contact with creams, oils, cosmetics, and hairspray.
- Avoid wearing pearls if the string is wet, as a wet cord can stretch and damage them.
- Do not wear pearls in water — swimming, showering, or washing dishes can dull their lustre and weaken the pearls.
- Pearls are sensitive to body acids, so avoid wearing them during strenuous exercise or excessive sweating.
- Handle with care; pearls are soft and can be scratched easily. Avoid storing them with other jewellery that may rub against them.
- Store pearls in a soft, silky pouch or a jewellery box with separate compartments to protect them from dust, sunlight, and other elements.
- After wearing, gently wipe pearls with a soft cloth to remove oils and residue.
- For cleaning, use a small amount of mild washing liquid and warm water. Avoid harsh detergents or chemicals.
- Dry pearls with a soft cloth and lay them flat to air dry. Do not hang, as this can stretch the string.
- Never use an ultrasonic cleaner, as it can damage the delicate surface of the pearls.
General Everyday Care
- Always put your jewellery on last — after perfume, skincare, sunscreen, and makeup.
- Avoid wear during showering, swimming, exercising, and sleeping.
- Moisture, sweat, and chemicals can dull finishes and accelerate wear.
- Treat pieces gently — delicate jewellery benefits from mindful handling.
